Location map of the 'Butterfly Valley' in the Ramsgate Conservancy

The Butterfly Valley begins at the 'Ibilanglolo River' mouth, also know as the 'Little Billy River', extending inland along the river for a distance of 1.6 kilometers. Which is the home to 212 bird species, 348 butterfly species, three buck species, many tree, grass, flower, mammal and other insect species. A true little piece of paradise.

News

What has happened to the old 'Butterfly Sanctuary'?
We started this new project in November 2008 as 'Conservation of Butterflies in South Africa' had to vacate the neighboring property on which the Ramsgate Butterfly Sanctuary was established in 2001. This was to avoid legal prosecution by government departments for non compliance in the buildings erected prior to our occupation. It is public knowledge that legal proceedings have been instituted against the owner and landlord for compensation.

We have acquired the property adjacent to what was known as the 'Butterfly Sanctuary', which is now called the 'Butterfly Valley', Huge strides have been made in the development of the new 'Ramsgate Butterfly Sanctuary'. We are hoping to have this ready in 2012. Email us at updates@ramsgatebutterflysanctuary.co.za  and we will keep you informed of all developments.
